Funding and Equipment
For some really interesting experiments concerning hypnosis certain specialised equipment would be required in order to design experiments that could seriously impact the whole field. In particular when researching biofeedback systems, where one can try to learn how to enter certain mental states it would be useful to have access to functional magnetic resonance imaging (commonly referred to as functional MRI or fMRI) systems but these are not cheap and access to them for research purposes would have to be sponsored or supplied either by a research team that would like to do some work on hypnosis or by some wealthy benefactor that may wish a particular study to take place.
A cheaper alternative would be the use of EEG scans and there is at least one company providing these for general use at around £1000 per unit, however there are several problems with using this type of equipment for any really specific kind of work on biofeedback. Despite this, they may still produce some useful preliminary results and given the price difference it might be a better route to go.
Anyone interested in doing some research or work using either of these alternatives alongside hypnosis and/or biofeedback work that is willing to sponsor the use or purchase of the equipment is welcome to contact me and discuss the details of it.
There are also other types of research relating to perception, biofeedback, martial arts, prediction of movement as a function of visual perception and so on, which are all extremely interesting and which in some cases I already have taken part in, however the researchers involved have asked that I release no information on this until after their own thesis and experimental data has been processed and published, which may be some time yet, but in the near(ish) future the results of these experiments will provide the first beginnings to a science of sports that will be undoubtedly useful. Lastly of course, there is always my earnest wish to study the hypnotisability of the Duck Billed Platypus as well as having a fully equipped research laboratory on a tropical beach setting and should you wish to sponsor either of these dreams I would probably be very willing to help with whatever research you are interested in.
